Tim Howard isn't a soccer player. He's a national treasure.
While the U.S. lost the World Cup match against Belgium on Tuesday, that didn't stop this goalkeeping machine from setting a record of 16 saves during a single game.
Soccer fans are paying tribute to Howard in the only way you can celebrate a true American hero — by signing a petition to change the name of the Washington National Airport to the Tim Howard National Airport.
The petition has over 2,700 signatures so far, but will require 100,000 signatures in order to reach its goal to prompt a response from the White House. The signatures do not guarantee any action, simply a response from officials — which is good if you're Justin Bieber, but not so good if you wanted a hot dog emoji.
The petition's writers note in their mission statement all of Howard's accomplishments in the name of the United States, saying, "Whereas Tim Howard has shown himself to be a national treasure, Minister of Defense, Friend of Joe Biden, and the holder for the record of most saves in a World Cup match; Therefore, we politely request that we rename the airport to recognize his accomplishments."
A tiny name change is the least America can do in honor of this titan of men.
