30 Hours of Phish to Celebrate 30 Years of Phish
What's This?
On this date in 1983, Trey Anastasio got together with some friends and formed a little band called Phish.
The band is often thought of as a modern-day Grateful Dead due to its penchant for impressively long shows that feature extended passages of improvised jamming and its cult-like following of fans who travel around the country to follow the band on tour.
Impressively, the band is still going strong today, 30 years after the band played its first gig in a University of Vermont cafeteria. The quartet continues to headline music festivals and give all-night concerts on holidays like Halloween and New Year's Eve.
Earlier today, the band tweeted the following photo from its account, commemorating today's milestone.
To do justice to a band with such enduring stamina, we had to go big with this playlist. In honor of 30 years of Phish, we give you 30 hours of live Phish music.
The playlist spans decades of Phish's live performances, from 30-minute jams to a cappella covers of popular songs. Even with 30 hours, though, it's possible die hard fans will point to noteworthy performances that didn't make the playlist. Here's how to add your favorite Phish jam if we missed it.
