Vine Challenge: #TheWoodies Film Festival
What's This?
Bring a woodman to life and create a Vine video to enter the #TheWoodies film festival.
The unisex wooden mannequin has long served as both a tool and a source of inspiration for artists. Traditionally, the mannequin was posed in various positions for artists to use as a guideline for their work. The mannequin was the perfect subject to use as a guide because of its many posable joints.
Thanks to the spark of Vine, the woodman has found a new life. This week's very special Vine Challenge is guest-hosted by master of stop-motion Ian Padgham, who has become synonymous with the Woodman — a term he fostered through an astonishing series of videos.
Create your own woodman Vine video to enter "The Woodies" Vine Challenge. Grab a Woodman (or maybe a woodwoman or wood-dog?) and get creative. Since your subject grants you such a blank canvas, you can bring it to life in any way you can imagine.
Be sure to tag your entry with the hashtag #TheWoodies and submit your post by Wednesday, October 16 at 6 p.m. ET. We will revine and feature the most inspired entries in a follow-up post.
I started doing Woodman all the way back in January when I was looking around my apartment for something I could Vine with.
Since then, the little guy has become a recurring character in my videos and one of my most recognized styles. I love the fact that he is fun and quirky, but also someone with whom everyone can identify. He's an extension of myself and also a way for me to dream about what I want to say or do.
One of the coolest parts of the Woodman series was that early on, I started seeing people all over the world making their own versions and sending them to me. There is a guy in Germany who created a Woodman nemesis made of metal, someone in London started sending me Woodman skits, and then people all over the U.S. made Woodman Vines and tagged me. I think the rich Vine community and collaborations between users is one of the greatest parts of the app.
