Stylus Moves Content From One Screen to Another
What's This?
Being able to move images and video from one screen to another with the flick of a wrist is not confined to Hollywood fiction anymore. A Chinese startup designed a next-generation stylus that works like a chemical dropper — making science fiction technology a reality.
As shown in the video above, Tagtal's tStylus easily moves images, video and other media from screen to screen and between different devices. The magic wand-like stylus is a capacitive touch sensor that works with special software, which needs to be running on the receiving device.
The On-Screen Port (OSP) software works with the tStylus to understand commands. So a user would simply select an area of a screen by freehand and whatever is selected — be it photos, videos, links or drawings — temporarily stores on the stylus. Then, the user can "drop" that content directly on the screen of another compatible device equipped with the software.
The devices don't even need to be paired, as you would have to do for transfers via Bluetooth. For dropping the content off, the tSylus is currently only fully compatible with iOS devices: iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. However, you can pick up content on any regular screen.
Tagtal is already developing a couple apps powered by OSP: Tagtal Paper is an iOS notebook app for sketching, while Tagtal Album (coming soon for iOS) will be for picture viewing and sharing. Developers can also make their own apps via OSP's SDK.
The company is trying to raise $20,000 on Indiegogo to further develop tSylus toward mass production. With still 16 days left in the project's campaign, funders had pledged just over $1,300, as of Wednesday afternoon.
A limited number of funders can get the tSylus in black or white for $29, with estimated delivery in December. The device is expected to eventually retail for $80.
