Extremely Cute Missed Connection Reads Like a Pixar Short
What's This?
If you've ever skimmed Craigslist's missed connections section, you know how they usually play out. The writer saw "the one that got away" on a park bench or in the check-out line at Trader Joe's. There was a moment between them, a fleeting glance, but neither party said anything before one walked away.
A post from Brooklyn's missed connections posted on Tuesday began in the same way. The setting was a Manhattan-bound Q train. What makes this post unique is that fact that the author's internal struggle over whether to chat up the object of his affection didn't last a couple of minutes — it went on for decades.
Like a scene from a dream-like short story, the missed connection goes on to tell the story of a man and woman sitting across from each other in a subway car, unwilling to leave and ruin the moment. And just as unable to speak to each other. The unintentional stand-off goes on for 60 years.
All future missed connections now have a higher bar to reach. We're hoping there is some truth to this one, and that the couple in question find each other before too much time passes.
