Immersive Game Makes You Duck and Dodge IRL

What's This?

For those looking for a truly immersive gaming experience — where you have to actually duck and dodge from every bullet — the demo above will amaze you.

A UK-based developer combined the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset with the Razer Hydra motion controller to create a game where you must move, dodge and take cover to keep your character out of harm's way.

HydraDeck is currently a work in progress for "Teddy0k", who has been posting updates on his project on the Oculus VR developer forums. The full demo shows him crouching and using cover while blasting enemies in the game.

Razer Hydra, a motion controller for PC gaming, makes the project possible. To set up his game, Teddy0k strapped one of the Hydra's two wands to his chest and held the other in his hand. The Hydra uses wands, each with joysticks and triggers on its end, to create motion controls. The wands communicate with a base station hooked up to the PC.

While this is only a test demo for developers with the Oculus Rift, it's an example of how far tech has come.

Teddy0k has more videos available of his progress on HydraRift on his YouTube channel.
