Buzz Aldrin outlined his plans for sending a human to Mars in a recent interview with Newt Gingrich, who filmed the discussion with Google Glass.

Four decades after his historical walk on the moon, Aldrin is back in the news after releasing his book Mission to Mars: My Vision for Space Exploration, a lofty plan to get humans to Mars by 2035.

"Mars is the most sustainable for human permanence, other than the Earth," Aldrin told Gingrich.

Then why doesn't the Apollo 11 astronaut favor an outpost on the moon instead? "Ehh, it gets pretty hot — 14 days of daylight, 14 days of darkness," Aldrin added.

Aldrin breaks down his Mars plan into three essential steps. "Three visits of a year and a half apiece of three astronauts, and we bring them back on the first one. Send another three. Bring them back after a year and a half. Send a third group there — they don't come back," he said. "They've got a lander, so they're going to wait a little longer until everything is finished — maybe six years, maybe seven years."

Since getting Google Glass, Gingrich has uploaded two videos to his YouTube account filmed with his new gadget. The first was last week's tour of the Peoria Zoo in Illinois.
