'Downton Abbey' Season 4 Trailer Hints at New Romance, Heartbreak

If you were out enjoying the final days of summer this Labor Day weekend and missed the arrival of the Downton Abbey season four trailer, don't worry. Now you can watch it over and over again, like we did all morning.

The new trailer, which hit the web on Saturday, isn't completely revealing — we learn very little about the upcoming plot, but there will clearly be a lot of kissing. And also a lot of crying. A few new faces pop up in the trailer, too.

Maggie Smith's character, Violet Crawley, tells her granddaughter Mary — who suffered great heartache at the end of season three — a few wise words: "You have a straightforward choice. You must choose either death or life."

What will Lady Mary do? We'll just have to sit tight and, of course, watch the trailer another dozen times before season four premieres Sept. 22 in the UK and Jan. 5 in the U.S.

Last year, U.S. fans who bought the season three pass of the British-American period drama on iTunes got early access to the final three episodes before PBS aired them on TV. There's no word yet if that will happen again.
