MLB Player Blasts Rival's Wife on Twitter

What's This?

Player-on-player Twitter beef isn't all that rare in sports world. But player-on-other-player's-wife? Here's one we don't see every day.

It's exactly what happened over the weekend, thanks to a social media meltdown by Texas Rangers pitcher Matt Garza. In the extended Twitter rant, Garza attacked the wife of Oakland A's infield Eric Sogard for intruding upon a "mans [sic] game" and blasted the couple as "chumps." Stranger still? How the sexist meltdown got started.

Garza is known around MLB for having an acute weakness at fielding bunts. So the A's went right at that weakness in Saturday night's game against the Rangers, with Sogard laying down a sacrifice bunt — the A's fourth of the game — to drive home a run and boost Oakland to a 4-2 lead. Despite this being a completely logical and clean strategic move by the A's, it incensed Garza, who screamed at Sogard shortly after the play.

He saved his real rage, however, for the Internet and Sogard's wife, Kaycee, later that night. Kaycee apparently ticked him off with this innocuous tweet she posted during the game, rooting for her husband's bunt to successfully create a scoring opportunity:

Cue Garza's Twitter tantrum, which he posted to his locked account:

He later tweeted this pseudo-apology before heading off to bed:

And as for Sogard? He took the attack in stride, responding later with this expertly passive-aggressive parry:

So, to recap: Stay classy, Matt Garza.
