Google's annual developers conference, Google I/O, kicks off on Wednesday, and we'll likely see a preview of all the new features coming to the next generation of Android devices.
The invite-only event will be live streamed starting at 9 a.m. PT, with a keynote in San Francisco. We'll be bringing you news and analysis throughout the event, but you can also watch the presentation here .
Though we don't know exactly what will be announced on stage, we're placing our bets on a few focus areas. The successor to Android's KitKat mobile operating system is rumored to make its first appearance — either version 4.5 or 5.0 — and it could be called Lollipop. The new software will likely have a newly designed user interface, and will come with added security to thwart off an uptick in malware.
We're also expecting Google to spend a significant amount of time discussing Android Wear, Google's software platform for wearables and smartwatches that was announced in March. Motorola's Moto 360 smartwatch and the LG G Watch are the first two devices powered by Android Wear, and those might get official debuts on stage at I/O.
Other rumored topics on the docket include Google's plans for a smart home takeover with Nest, a relaunch of Google TV as Android TV and the Nexus 8 tablet.
Oh, and we can't forget Google Glass.
