The CW Doubles Down on Zombies and Superheroes for Fall Lineup
What's This?
The CW is doubling down on zombies and superheroes this fall with its primetime lineup, including a new comic book-inspired show called Flash and the renewal of its popular Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals.
The network’s lineup for the fall is once again heavily focused on the popular supernatural trend and made room for new shows by canceling The Carrie Diaries, the inspired prequel to HBO' Sex and the City.
During the CW's Upfront presentation in New York City on Thursday, executives said this is the network's most-watched season in three years across every demographic, in large part due to its focus on zombies and apocalyptic themes.
The network also announced some scheduling changes. The Originals is moving to a Monday time slot at 8 p.m. ET, followed by a new series called Jane the Virgin at 9 p.m.
From the executive producer of Ugly Betty, the show follows a teenager who accidentally becomes artificially inseminated after a mix-up at the gynecologist. Jane the Virgin is the only new CW series that doesn't capitalize on its supernatural trend.
Meanwhile, CW is bringing Flash to its Tuesday night lineup at 8 p.m. ET, followed by The Supernatural at 9 p.m. The network's schedule will remain the same on both Wednesday and Thursday, with Arrow at 8 p.m. and The 100 at 9:00 p.m. The network's most-watched show, The Vampire Diaries, holds onto the 8 p.m. slot on Thursdays, followed by Reign.
The CW's Friday night lineup takes on a lighter note, with two episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyway? at 8 p.m. and America's Next Top Model at 9 p.m.
