Study: Chocolate and Red Wine Aren't as Healthy as You Think
What's This?
If you’ve been drinking red wine for "health reasons," a new study might make you scramble for a new excuse.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine found no association between resveratrol — the popular antioxidant found in red wine, chocolate and other foods — and longevity.
The study was conducted on 783 individuals, 65 years of age and older, in the wine-tasting region of Chianti, Italy. The results show no health benefits whatsoever to consuming higher-than-normal levels of resveratrol.
Americans spend $30 million per year on resveratrol supplements, according to CNN, even though no long-term studies have backed up the antioxidant’s benefits.
