Gmail For Android Installed 1 Billion Times

Gmail's Android app has been installed more than 1 billion times, Google's Sundar Pichai revealed today on his Google+ page.

The app's official page on Google Play now says it has 1 - 5 billion installs. Only one other app can claim the same, and that's Google Play Services, which is installed on all Android devices by default.

Earlier this week, leaked screenshots of a new web interface for Gmail appeared, hinting at a major design overhaul of the service. The Gmail app for Android will likely get a similar treatment as well.
