Russia Today Anchor Abby Martin Speaks Out Against Invasion of Crimea

What's This?

Russia Today anchor Abby Martin went rogue during yesterday's broadcast, speaking out against Russia's military action against Ukraine.

"Just because I work here, for RT, doesn't mean I don't have editorial independence and I can't stress enough how strongly I am against any military intervention in sovereign nations' affairs. What Russia did is wrong," she said at the end of RT's Breaking the Set.

"I will not sit here and apologize or defend military agression," she said.

She goes on to blast the media for their coverage of the situation in Ukraine. "Furthermore, the coverage I've seen of Ukraine has been truly disappointing from all sides of the media spectrum, and ripe with disinformation," she said.

"All we can do now is hope for a peaceful outcome for a terrible situation, and prevent another full-blown cold war between multiple superpowers. Until then, I'll keep telling the truth as I see it," she concluded.

Martin, originally from Washington D.C., is a host of Russia Today's Breaking The Set, described as a "show that cuts through the pre-written narrative that tries to tell you what to think, and what to care about." Russia Today, Moscow's English-language news service, has been criticized for its one-sided reporting on Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

On her Twitter feed, Martin did not directly reference the incident, instead retweeting a quote from Vincent Van Gogh.
