Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died Sunday at his New York City home, police told The Wall Street Journal. He was 46.


A cause of death has not been confirmed, although The New York Post reported that Hoffman died of an "apparent drug overdose."


Mashable has reached out to the New York Police Department for more details on Hoffman's death. We will update this post when officials respond.


Hoffman has a prominent role in The Hunger Games movie franchise as gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. There is no word on how his character will be handled in the two forthcoming Hunger Games films. Previously, Hoffman won Best Actor at the the 78th Academy Awards in 2006 for his portrayal of author Truman Capote in Capote.


An official said Hoffman "was found dead at his apartment at 35 Bethune St. in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan," according to WSJ.
