60-Year-Old Woman Accidentally Becomes 87th Hottest Attraction in Glasgow

What's This?

Cancel that trip to the museum, there's a hot new spot to visit in Scotland.

After a little registration mishap on TripAdvisor, 60-year-old Mary Johnston is now the 87th most popular tourist attraction in Glasgow. In case you were wondering, she's been rated four out of five stars.

While Johnston is proving a popular tourist attraction, how her sideways image appeared on the site remains a mystery. Johnston tells the Scotsman that she was not responsible for creating the account, and it was a "bug in the system" or perhaps a "malicious" account.

More curiously, TripAdvisor even screens each tourist attraction submitted to the site.

Since then, the image of Johnston has been removed from TripAdvisor, but was captured in a screenshot by Reddit chrisTMMurphy.

Unfortunately for Johnston, TripAdvisor's automated website text asks users, "Been to Mary Johnston? Share your experiences!" which, unsurprisingly, has propelled Internet trolls.

"This attraction wasn’t in the guidebooks but is fun for all the family if you’re a fan of people called Mary or rotationally-challenged photos. The doorman seemed a bit grumpy though and didn’t seem to want to let us in," writes user Perrierdoumbe in a review. Jon Pavelin adds, "I’ve met other Mary Johnstons around the world but never a sideways one." These reviews have since been deleted.

Johnston has been a trooper in her newfound Internet fame, responding with, "At least it is a good picture of me."

Better start preparing for a few thousand houseguests, Mary.
