December was full of holiday celebrations, so it's no surprise that some of the month's most popular ads revolved around the seasonal spirit of giving, family and fun.

You've probably already laughed or cried with more than one of these videos, shared widely on YouTube and compiled into this list by Unruly Media.

Even though December was plagued with snow-white, happy family advertising, some products dared to do more to stand out. International athletes one-upped each other's selfies and prepared for an intergalactic soccer match, while audiences learned that canned food is great for cats, not for astronauts.

For the holidays, WestJet showed the world that giving can be a rewarding experience, while Apple demonstrated that sometimes things are not as simple as they initially seem.
