Happy birthday, Vine! The video-sharing app turns a whopping 1 year old this week. What were we ever doing without it?
A breeding ground where short videos go viral nearly every other day, the app is an incredibly creative outlet. The Vine universe has specifically grown traction for producing some pretty stellar up-and-coming comedians, who manage to pack their punchlines into six sweet seconds.
One year after it all began, these are the hilarious Vine stars you should be following.
1. King Bach
Andrew Bachelor, known to Vine users as King Bach, is all physical. The aspiring actor and comedian dances, does backflips and constantly rips his shirt off to get a laugh out of his 4.8 million followers. Since his rise on the app, he's received a huge acting break, landing a recurring role on the Showtime series House of Lies.
2. Jerome Jarre
The uber-smiley Frenchman is all about sending positive vibes and happy laughs, and he isn't afraid to offer free hugs to strangers.
3. Marcus and Cody Johns
The Johns brothers have proven that a funny bone runs in the family. Though they have separate accounts, they often collaborate, with Cody playing the straight man to Marcus' cartoonish characters.
4. Michael LoPriore
Get ready for a lot of fake raps and slang references. LoPriore uses zeitgeisty pop culture as the basis for most of his jokes, most popularly creating the "classy guy" character, a high society snob who likes to throw around the word "ratchet." Be sure to follow his brother Danny as well, another Viner on the rise who makes up hilarious fake hip-hop and R&B songs.
5. Nicholas Megalis
Every Viner is unique, but Megalis is his own special brand. The singer-songwriter transforms six-second melodies into musical jokes. He's so good he's even released original material that has charted on iTunes, and will soon be heading on tour.
6. Curtis Lepore
Heavily-tatted Vine star Curtis Lepore has 3.4 million followers and counting. He isn't afraid to try new things, often adding tons of special effects and bizarre props. Oh, and be prepared for gratuitous videos of his dog, Buster Beans.
7. KC James
This West Coast skater dude rose to Vine fame after creating a sketch series mocking Orange County moms. He's branched out since then, crafting oddball humor and a slew of other weird characters.
8. Jordan Burt
Jordan Burt is king of the nerds. He often posts Vine videos as his alter-ego, Gary — a shy, awkward loser who gets himself into unfortunate situations. Bonus points: He and KC James are constantly collaborating, and when their senses of humor pair up, it makes for some golden, offbeat sketches.
9. Alx James
We never know where he's going, but Alx James is nearly always driving and Vining. He delivers quite a bit of sass in just six seconds, often griping about everyday situations.
10. Nash Grier
Nash Grier is basically Vine's version of One Direction. The teen is an absolute sensation, with around 4.8 million followers who are quick to like any video he posts.
11. Jerry Purpdrank
Purpdrank makes funny jokes out of mediocre occurrences, and also has a knack for doing spot-on impressions of Lil Wayne.
12. Brittany Furlan
The first lady of Vine, Furlan became one of the app's earliest celebrities. She isn't afraid to be extremely weird to total strangers, which is often when she gets the most laughs.
13. Rudy Mancuso
A man of many characters, Mancuso is a jack of all trades. He can play multiple instruments, mimic any accent and steadily maintains a growing number of Vine alter egos.
14. Jessi Smiles
Jessi Smiles constantly likes to remind you she's a girl — and then completely mocks girly stereotypes.
15. Logan Paul
This Ohio University college student is one of Vine's newer stars, recently stacking more than 2 million followers thanks to his absurd antics that often play out in front of an unsuspecting public.
16. Alphacat
Viner Iman Crosson (known as Alphacat) had a presidential road to success. He became famous on YouTube for impressions of Barack Obama, and has since crossed over into an especially skilled comedian.
17. Simone Shepherd
If Alphacat is the Obama of Vine, then Shepherd is its Beyoncé. The comedienne snagged followers thanks to her over-the-top humor and flawless impressions of the superstar singer. Her talent even landed her a recent audition for Saturday Night Live, during its search for a black female cast member.
18. Ry Doon
Vine is also crawling with its fair share of Jay Z impressions, but none are better than Ry Doon. Well, he doesn't exactly look like Jay, but his rap impressions are spot-on. When he isn't pretending to be a rapper, Doon's Vine videos are incredibly kooky vignettes of his life in Boston.
19. Manon Mathews
Comedienne Manon Mathews is an alum of The Second City, an improv training ground that bred the likes of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. She's quickly following their footsteps, racking up a steadily increasing Vine following that will follow her into the film and TV world.
