Do Not Track: 'Stealth Wear' Clothing Protects Your Privacy

What's This?

If you want to protect yourself against government spying, or you're afraid you might be the target of a drone, there's hope beyond the good-old tinfoil hat. Two artists are now selling their high-tech privacy-protecting gear to fool drones and spies — and you can buy some of it for under $100.

Adam Harvey, a New York-based artist, teamed up with fashion designer Johanna Bloomfield to create clothes and gadgets that enhance your privacy, like metallic t-shirts that fool thermal cameras, or cellphone cases that jam transmissions and prevent spies from eavesdropping on your calls.

These high-tech anti-surveillance gizmos are now on sale at the first-ever Privacy Gift Shop, at the New Musem in New York City. The shop will be open through Sept. 22, but the products will be available from the New Museum through the holiday season.

Harvey and Bloomfield haven't created this products to make a profit, they intended to spark a debate around the increase in surveillance and the ways citizens can regain control against it.

The products' prices range from $50 for an anti-drone t-shirt, to $350 for an anti-drone hoodie, to $100 for the anti-spy cellphone pouch.

"We have things in all price ranges, which is what we like to do at New Museum, so we make sure things are accessible for everybody," said Dan Thiem, director of retail operations at the New Museum.
