It's no mystery that TV shows can introduce music to fresh ears or revive long-forgotten songs, particularly now with online music-on-demand services. Breaking Bad 's final episode did just that Sunday for British rock band Badfinger's song "Baby Blue" from 1972.

The somber song — which opens with the lyrics, "Guess I got what I deserved" — played during the waning minutes of the show's "Felina" episode. Since that moment, "Baby Blue" streams have increased 9,000% on Spotify, a company spokesman confirmed to Mashable.

The show's lead actor Bryan Cranston bid adieu to his teacher-turned-kingpin character Walter White on Monday via this Twitter message:

"Baby Blue" also made a cameo in Martin Scorsese's 2006 acclaimed film, The Departed.

Although the popular show ended Sunday, it will live on through an AMC spinoff series about criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. The prequel is tentatively titled, Better Call Saul.

At the Primetime Emmys, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan admitted to Mashable that the show may have met its demise after season two had it not been for streaming video on demand: "It's indeed a golden age of television ... I think Netflix kept us on the air."
