Aaron Paul's 'Breaking Bad' Character Spoofs Obamacare on 'SNL'

What's This?

Saturday Night Live infused its season 39 premiere with a surprising slice of Breaking Bad , the Emmy-winning AMC drama whose much-anticipated series finale arrives Sunday night.

Actor Aaron Paul appeared as Breaking Bad meth cook Jesse Pinkman in SNL's opening skit about Obamacare. Pinkman stands beside U.S. President Barack Obama (played by Jay Pharoah), and discusses the need for health-care coverage, using the tale of Breaking Bad protagonist Walter White. Pinkman comes in at the 4:28 mark in the video, below.

"So, uh, yeah, I had this friend, you know, and he got sick — like cancer sick. But because there wasn’t Obamacare he couldn’t afford treatments, so he was, like backed into a corner. You know what I mean?" Pinkman says. "So he did what any of us would have done: He started cooking meth. And soon it wasn't just meth, it was murder, you know? And not regular murder, like, he blew half a guy's face off."

Before he gives any finale spoilers, a disturbed Obama rushes him off the stage. Paul made several guest appearances throughout SNL's premiere episode, capitalizing on the success that Saturday Night Live and Breaking Bad recently had at the Primetime Emmys.

Breaking Bad won 10 Emmys this year, including best drama and best supporting actress for Anna Gunn, while SNL surpassed Frasier with the most wins ever for a program (40 vs. 37).
