YouTube Easter Egg Turns Site Into Missile Command
What's This?
It’s Geek Week at YouTube, which means the site has left a geeky surprise for visitors each day.
Thursday’s Geek Week addition: an Easter Egg that turns the site into a game of Missile Command.
To activate the game, type “1980” on the page while you’re watching a video. We found it easiest to highlight a word or phrase on the page and then type the numbers, just to avoid accidentally triggering any other commands on the page.
Once you do, Missile Command will launch at the top of the page. The missile’s target is your video, and its your job to protect it from destruction. When the video is hit, the virtual screen will crack until, eventually, your video has been destroyed.
Earlier this week YouTube launched an Easter Egg that turns all of the words on the page into leetspeak, by typing 1337 on the page.
