Jordan or Kobe? Video Mashup Proves Eerie Similarities

What's This?

Right around around this time last year, an 18-year-old Jordanian kid named Youssef Hannoun living in Cairo, Egypt, cut together a YouTube highlight reel of plays from the respective careers of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. But this wasn't just any highlight video — Hannoun spent hours pouring through footage to find identical plays from each legend's career, showing an uncanny similarity between their playing styles.

Hannoun just released a sequel mashup, again proving the incredible worldwide reach of both basketball and social media, as well the how eerily Bryant modeled his skills off those of his hero Jordan. This second installment may prove even more popular than the first — it's already racked up more than 345,000 views since hitting YouTube on Thursday.

Hannoun (@YoussefHannoun on Twitter) told us after releasing the first video last year that making the mashups is more a task of finding the right Jordan plays than scouring Bryant's highlights. Staying up until 5:30 a.m. to watch Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers on TV from Egypt, Hannoun told us in an email, meant he'd "literally seen every single Kobe bucket since the 07-08 season, as well as highlights from his entire career, so I have his game more or less memorized."

So when he saw Jordan make a familiar move, Hannoun wrote, "I'd know when Kobe pulled off the same play against which team and what year, so finding Kobe's clips were very easy; the whole thing was relatively easy for me."

By way of NBA arenas, via Cairo, Egypt, and now into your Internet, check out Hannoun's latest video above, then let us know what you think in the comments.
