Joaquin Phoenix Gets Frisky With a Virtual Assistant in 'Her' Trailer
What's This?
Here's a brain buster: It's OK to say that Siri is quickly becoming man's new best friend, yeah? Sure. Personal assistant? Yes. Love interest? No, definitely not. That's weird, right?
Spike Jonze's forthcoming film from Warner Bros., Her , appears to explore that question. In the first official trailer (above), Joaquin Phoenix's character, Theodore — a writer recovering from lovers past — is introduced to the world's first artificially intelligent operating system, and after a series of questions is paired with a Siri-like (or maybe more of a HAL 9000-like) companion, Samantha (Scarlett Johansson).
As the trailer goes on, Theodore and Samantha's relationship seemingly becomes more involved and complicated, and pressing questions regarding love, real-world relationships and marriage seem to hang unanswered in the ether. The film was written and directed by Jonze, with Amy Adams and Rooney Mara set to star alongside Phoenix and Johansson.
The movie is slated to hit theaters in limited release on Nov. 20.
