'Sharknado' Is Coming to Movie Theaters for One Day Only
What's This?
If you need another fix of a freak tornado that hurls terrifying, ocean-dwelling sharks onto land, we've got good news for you. Syfy's made-for-TV movie Sharknado will get some time on the big screen. The film will be shown at select theaters on Aug. 2 at 12:05 a.m. local time.
The midnight showings in more than 200 theaters will include never-before-seen Sharknado footage such as a behind-the-scenes featurette and a gag reel. Tickets are available at the box office of your chosen theater or on NCM Fathom Events' website.
Sharknado premiered on Syfy on July 11 to much fanfare on social media, attracting 318,232 tweets during the broadcast and peaking at 5,000 tweets per minute.
Syfy is capitalizing on this social success by creating a sequel — set for a July 2014 release — and giving Twitter users the opportunity to name it.
Sharknado features Tara Reid, Ian Ziering, John Heard and Cassie Scerbo. Their characters "investigate the ecological nightmare that has sharks swimming through the streets of Los Angeles and falling from the skies."
