Google Now Rolling Out Invitations for Google Glass
What's This?
Google has begun rolling out invitations for Google Glass.
Ryan Mott, a participant in the Glass Explorer program for early adopters, posted a screenshot of an email from Glass Support to his Google+ profile. It was sent on Tuesday night.
With the subject line, "Invite a friend to explore Glass," the email says:
We love demoing Glass to our friends. We've perfected our 'OK Glass, take a picture' faces so that the shot captures us smiling, laughing and looking chic. Well, maybe not all at the same time.
Mostly, we love sharing Glass with our friends, because adventures through Glass are more fun with others. Here's your chance to invite one friend into the Glass Explorer Program. Complete this form and share Glass with a friend, funny demo face and all.
Google specifies that invitations are limited to people who are U.S. residents, at least 18 years old and able to pick up Glass in San Francisco, New York or Los Angeles.
The Mountain View, Calif. company is no stranger to introducing new products to the public via invites. Back in 2004, users who wanted a Gmail account had to receive an invitation from a friend before getting access; that stopped in 2007, when Gmail sign-ups opened up to everyone.
Explorer editions of Google Glass began rolling out to developers and consumers in April. Glass is a pair of augmented-reality glasses that includes a heads-up display, works through voice command and can take pictures.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
