Google Ends Free 3-Month Netflix Promo for Chromecast Orders
What's This?
It was a good deal that didn't last very long.
Google reportedly ended its three-month Netflix subscription promotion for Chromecast buyers on Thursday, just one day after the new media streaming product was announced.
New orders for the $35 Chromecast devices were initially bundled with a free three-month Netflix subscription — a deal lauded for "subsidizing" the value of the product. But within hours of Wednesday's Chromecast public launch, the device sold out (or was backlogged for shipment) from the Google Play store.
Google confirmed to the Los Angeles Times on Thursday that the Netflix promotion is now over "due to overwhelming demand."
The Chromecast device was still available for order from the Google Play store and Best Buy, but it was out of stock on Amazon as of Thursday afternoon.
At the time of writing, Google had not yet returned Mashable's request for comment. But Google's official Chromecast page no longer advertises the Netflix deal.
