Facebook posted impressive second quarter results on Wednesday, beating Wall Street's estimates for revenue, earnings and mobile ad growth.

Facebook's revenue hit $1.8 billion for the quarter, its highest ever in a single quarter, and well ahead of Wall Street's estimates for revenue of $1.62 billion. Much of that came from mobile, which now accounts for 41% of Facebook's total revenue, up from 0% a little more than a year ago.

Facebook's revenue increased sequentially and year-over-year in every region the company operates in.

Facebook's net profit for the quarter was $488 million, or $0.19 a share, compared to analyst estimates of $0.14 a share. The company's operating margin also increased to 31% from 26% the previous quarter.

The number of mobile monthly active users, a key point of interest, increased by more than 50% year over year.
