Cancer Patient Performs Heartwarming Duet With College Quarterback
What's This?
And the award for NCAA's model student-athlete goes to ... Jacob Karam.
The University of Memphis starting quarterback recently spent his free time at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital playing piano for the children. Soon after, a young patient named Breanna Bercegeay decided to join him on the keys. Breanna, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on June 4th, stars in one of the most heartwarming videos you'll ever see.
The two performed a duet with Breanna singing Jessie J's monster-single "Price Tag," accompanied by Karam on the piano.
According to the YouTube video's description, the two played nine other songs that night because "[Breanna] didn't want to stop." A Facebook page titled Cheering for Breanna where more than 7,000 people have shown their support.
Karam was nominated for the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team last week, an award given to student-athletes for their excellence in the community. Recently, he and his fellow teammates helped build a playground at a local elementary school. Breanna's mother, Dana, told CBS that Karam has visiting the hospital for months — unannounced, and to the surprise of team and school officials at Memphis.
