FAA Extends Israel Flight Ban for Another Day

U.S. airlines are not allowed to travel to or from Tel Aviv's airport for another 24 hours, the FAA announced on Wednesday.


The ban is an extension of FAA's initial restriction on Tuesday that barred all U.S. airlines from flying into Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport. The move came shortly after rocket fire hit near the Israeli airport.


Delta, US Airways and United had all cancelled their flights shortly before the FAA restriction.


Hours later, their counterparts in Europe and Canada followed — Germany's Lufthansa, Italian airline Alitalia and Air France all acted before the European Aviation Safety Agency issued an advisory — despite protests from the Israeli government. Israeli airline El Al maintained its regular flight schedule.
