On its 15th anniversary, it'd be easy to look back on Napster with the same fondness and nostalgic affection we typically reserve for Saved by the Bell, or the Motorola Razr. But that would be dishonest.


The Napster era (1999 to 2001) was a time of great risk in our lives. We Millennials did things for free music that would horrify our future selves to tears.



Don't act like you don't remember — these were everyday experiences, common as parodies of "Whassup?" Budweiser commercials and zip-off cargo pants. We lived this.
