Exhilarating, terrifying, exhausting and fulfilling — motherhood is one of the most universal and unique experiences of a woman's life.

On May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation declaring the second Sunday in May a national holiday to celebrate the work of all mothers. A century later, in recognition of the anniversary, we searched every corner of New York City for moms and their fascinating stories.
