1 Dead, 5 Injured After Plane Carrying Tourists Crashes in Arizona
What's This?
A small plane carrying a group of tourists crashed while landing 200 miles north of Phoenix, Arizona, on Saturday. One person died in the accident, while five others were injured, local police confirmed to Mashable
The Cessna 207 crashed around 400 to 500 feet short of the tarmac at the Page Municipal Airport due to strong winds, according to a Page Police Department official quoted by the Arizona Republic.
Five people were transported to Page Hospital. One died, while four suffered "minor injuries," and were treated and released. Another person with "undetermined injuries" was flown to another facility, the Flagstaff Medical Center, and is currently in "stable condition," according to a spokesperson for the Page Police Department.
The plane was operated by American Aviation, a Salt Lake City-based sightseeing-tours company. It was carrying a group of six French tourists, when strong winds caused the plane to hit the sand, and flip upside down, according to the Associated Press. The pilot was reportedly among those injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Page Police Department said the accident is still under investigation.
