Congressman Sean Duffy: 'But First, Let Me Take a Selfie.'

What's This?

Congressman Sean Duffy (R.-Wis.), who also starred in MTV's Real World Boston, has recreated the viral music video "#Selfie" with selfies he took with constituents, his family and unsuspecting familiar faces on Capitol Hill.

"I'm jumping on a trend to try to engage my younger constituents," Duffy told Mashable on what inspired him to create the video. "They need to know that a lot of what's happening now will impact their futures. If taking a 'selfie' with the chair of the SEC, Steny Hoyer, or Alzheimer's research advocates, gets their attention, then it's worth it. Plus, it's fun."

Duffy's team shared the video (above) exclusively with Mashable.

The video features an overwhelming number of surprise selfies, like former Republican vice presidential candidate and Congressman Paul Ryan (taken just after passing the fiscal 2015 budget), a bi-partisan selfie with Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, a friendly selfie with Speaker John Boehner and yet another with potential GOP presidential candidate, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

No joke, the video is pretty amazing. But more importantly, it shows how lawmakers are stepping outside traditional realms of communication to adapt, grow and engage with younger audiences.
