The menacing foes have come out in full force in the first trailer for action film Hercules.

The clip arrived Tuesday, giving viewers a glimpse at Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson's portrayal of the title character and his battles against the ferocious monsters of mythical Greece.

Among the hero's enemies is an enormous lion who quickly falls victim to Hercules' brute strength and becomes quite the elaborate headpiece, as seen below in this still:

Dwayne Johnson portrays Hercules in the upcoming film of the same name. Hear him roar!

Based on British comics writer Steven Moore's Hercules series, the movie also stars Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt.

The Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures film hits theaters July 25.
