First 3D 'Peanuts' Trailer Will Make You Feel All Warm and Fuzzy
What's This?
More than 30 years have passed since your favorite black-and-white beagle, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang graced the big screen — which may be hard to believe. But that changes next year.
Based on the comic strip created by the late Charles Schulz, Peanuts has lived on largely through newspaper comics, MetLife commercials, reruns of classic TV specials (A Charlie Brown Christmas) and the occasional viral video. Throughout all these incarnations, however, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus and their friends have always been portrayed as 2D, hand-drawn characters. In a new Peanuts film slated for 2015 from 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios (which brought you Ice Age), their entire world enters 3D.
Even in this brief yet chill-inducing teaser trailer, you can see the volume of Charlie Brown's little wisp of brown hair and how Snoopy's fur resembles actual fur. Even Snoopy's red dog house looks touchable. The effect will be even more extreme when the film hits theaters in eye-popping 3D.
Peanuts Worldwide, LLC, the company that controls the Peanuts franchise, is keeping mum on the plot. Even the movie's IMDB page, which lists the director as Steve Martino, who directed Ice Age: Continental Drift, and the producers as Charles Schulz's son Bryan and grandson Craig, is missing a plot description.
Bryan Schulz told USA Today that the family has been very careful with Schulz's legacy since the comic strip artist's death in 2000. But now, a film is "long overdue," Schulz said. "The fans have been asking for a long time, but we held off until the time was right."
