In nearly 40 years in the radio business and 60 years on Earth, Howard Stern has accumulated quite an array of celebrity friends.

The prominent "shock jock" hosted a 60th birthday party at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom Friday night. The event — much like Stern's show — included a motley crew of guests.

"Look around the room at the variety of people," event host Jimmy Kimmel said, adding that there were "stockbrokers, stutterers [and] Oscar-winners" among the attendees.

The festivities doubled as a four-hour radio broadcast on SiriusXM radio. Among the celebrities in attendance: Bryan Cranston, Lena Dunham, John Stamos, Rosie O'Donnell, Jimmy Fallon, George Takei, Heidi Klum, Joan Rivers, Barbara Walters and Katie Couric.

There were also musical performances by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Slash of Guns N' Roses, John Mayer, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival and Train.

Stern, whose actual birthday is on Jan. 12, ditched traditional radio for a $500 million contract with SiriusXM in 2004. He was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2012. Here's a look inside the party venue before guests arrived.

Even New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — on a day when the George Washington Bridge scandal may have taken a turn for the worse — crossed the Hudson River to attend Stern's party. On the red carpet outside the event, Stern himself commented on recent allegations that Christie knew about the politically motivated lane closures on the bridge.

Political scandals aside, Stern's birthday celebration reflected what his decades-long career has been all about: controversial humor, debauchery for entertainment's sake and Hollywood stargazing.

"I'm sort of in denial; I kind of go, 'Wow, I don't look 60, I look good!" Stern told USA Today . "And then I see a picture of myself and go, 'Uhhh.'"

Stern said he "lost count" of how many shots he took at the party, but was apparently coherent enough to tweet about it to fans:
