Monthly cable bills vary by person, but almost everyone can agree on something: The costs are just too damn high.


The NPD Group reports the average American household spent close to $86 per month on cable packages in 2011 — and that's not including those with bundled services for Internet or telephone line access.



While online streaming sites like Netflix, Hulu Plus and HBO Go continue to grow in popularity — Netflix alone has more than 36 million subscribers as of April — the majority of cable-users are still deciding whether to cut the cord. It's a tough decision, but it could end up saving you a small fortune each month while trimming out extra channels you're not actually watching.
