Doctor Who star Matt Smith, the 11th actor to play the Doctor in the 50-year-old series' history, has just two epic episodes to go as the universe-trekking Time Lord. But don't despair, fellow Whovians. The 12th Doctor has already been selected. The BBC is introducing the next Doctor on Sunday during a TV special broadcast simultaneously on BBC America at 2 p.m. ET.
Join us live starting at 1 p.m. ET, as some of Mashable's most-knowledgable Doctor Who viewers bring you context and conversation before, during and after the announcement.
Many Whovians see the 12th Doctor as an opportunity for showrunner Steven Moffat to take a risk. Could the Last of the Time Lords regenerate into a woman, such as Olivia Colman or Tilda Swinton? Perhaps we'll have a Doctor of a different race, such as Chiwetel Ejiofor or Daniel Kaluuya. Or could it be an older, more established actor — like the current odds-on favorite, Peter Capaldi? Follow along, below, as Mashable's deputy editor Chris Taylor, associate managing editor Amanda Wills and associate entertainment editor Brian Anthony Hernandez find out.
