Report: LeBron's Police Escort Investigated After Instagram Video

What's This?

Lebron

LeBron James pulled a big-time social media humblebrag this weekend when he posted an Instagram video of himself getting a police escort to Jay Z and Justin Timberlake's concert in Miami.

But the post wasn't just another bit of modern digital boasting — it's also reportedly helped spark a police investigation.

Here below is the video, which James posted with the caption, "They treat us so well! Needed it cause traffic was nuts!!"

Some fans immediately criticized the NBA star for requiring — or at least accepting — an escort and then broadcasting it to his 3.5 million Instagram followers. On Monday, celebrity muckrakers TMZ reported that the escort has caused some controversy offline as well.

A police escort for one celebrity to get to two other celebrities' mega-concert would have been a "break from protocol" and the Miami-Dade Police Department is now investigating who provided the assistance and why. Miami-Dade and four other local law enforcement agencies all reportedly deny that it was one of their cruisers that provided the escort, but James' path would have taken him through Miami-Dade jurisdiction.

At any rate, it's not like James is the target of this inquiry. If someone did indeed break rank to get him to the show, that's not his fault. But posting about the special treatment to millions upon millions of digital followers certainly doesn't help keep things hush-hush.

So consider this your daily social media reminder that celebrities are not at all just like the rest of us.
