Nokia Slams the iPhone Camera in New Lumia Ad

What's This?

If you can't beat them, try to use their success against them. At least that seems to be Nokia's formula.

Nokia's latest ad for the Lumia 925, above, parodies the style of an iPhone 5 ad from earlier this year, which focused on the device's camera, and tries to use it against Apple.

"Every day, more photos are taken on the iPhone than any other phone," a narrator says in the ad. "But at Nokia, we prefer to build for quality, not just quantity." The ad proceeds to show side-by-side shots of pictures taken with the Nokia 925 and iPhone 5.

Lumia sales have been on the upswing this year, hitting a record 5.6 million in the first quarter and 7.4 million in the second quarter, but sales of the device still pale in comparison to the iPhone. In the most recent quarter, Apple reported selling 31.2 million iPhones.

Nokia isn't the only company parodying Apple's ads to promote its own products. Microsoft, a partner of Nokia's, ran a series of commercials in recent months making fun of the iPad in an effort to boost sales of its Windows 8 tablets.

So far, it doesn't seem to have worked out too well.
