Hipmunk App Now Lets You Search For Last-Minute Hotel Deals

Hipmunk is expanding its hotel listings with the introduction of a new feature Thursday that lets users search for last-minute deals on lodging. The feature, called Tonight Only, is available as part of an update to Hipmunk's iOS and Android apps.

"The way that people search is different when they are on their computer or their phone," Adam Goldstein, co-founder of Hipmunk, told Mashable in an interview. "About half of people searching on their phone are searching for last-minute hotels and the other half are searching more in advance. We want the app to work for both."

With that in mind, Hipmunk is working with more than a dozen different providers, including Expedia, Airbnb and HomeAway, as well as various hotel chains to get competitive pricing for hotels in cities in the U.S. and abroad. The last-minute hotel deals are up to 60% off, according to Hipmunk. As with normal hotel listings on Hipmunk, users can sort the last-minute hotel deals by price, reviews, amenities and the app's unique "ecstasy" filter, which is a combination of all three.

Hipmunk launched as a flight-search app in mid-2010 and added hotel listings the following year, which it then overhauled last November. Goldstein told us that hotel bookings on Hipmunk have tripled over the past six months, and that the app has now been downloaded "well over" 1 million times.
