What's This?

As Twitter has emerged into the mainstream over the past few years, college sports coaches have reacted in different ways. Some have banned their players from the social network, while others have made tentative forays in the Twitter world.

Then there's Vanderbilt coach James Franklin, who on Tuesday used Twitter to promise to do one Commodores fan a very big solid.

Vanderbilt's first game of this season is at home at 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 29 — a Thursday — posing a major problem for one big fan and alum:

"JD" has less than 100 followers and didn't use any handles or hashtags in his post, but that didn't stop Coach Franklin from finding the tweet and replying some four hours later:

JD, needless to say, was pretty jazzed about the unexpected response:

And it sounds like Franklin wasn't just blowing hot air:

Whether Franklin ends up making the call — and whether it's enough to convince JD's boss to reshuffle that pesky work schedule — remains to be seen. Either way, though, this isn't something you see a college football coach do every day.

Do you think Franklin's response was cool, or should he stay out of fans' work schedules? Give us your take in the comments.
