Warner Bros. made worlds collide on Saturday with the announcement at Comic-Con that Superman and Batman will be hitting the big screen together in a follow up to 2013’s Man of Steel. The film, which doesn’t yet have a title, is slated for a 2015 release and is set to be directed by Zack Snyder.

Snyder, who helmed Steel, is also attached to co-write the story with David S. Goyer, who will write the screenplay. Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman. (Christian Bale has said he will not be returning as the Bat, so the new Dark Knight role is currently open.)

Snyder unveiled the film’s logo during the presentation:

"I'm so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter," Snyder said. "Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest super heroes in the world."

Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are set to produce, and Christopher Nolan, Benjamin Melniker, Emma Thomas and Michael E. Uslan are serving as executive producers, per Variety.

The project looks like a move on the part of WB and DC Comics to bring more of their titans in the same frames — as Marvel did with The Avengers — ultimately, perhaps, for a potential Justice League movie in 2017. Snyder said that Batman and Superman's relationship from Frank Miller's 1980s comic The Dark Knight Returns will inform aspects of the new duo.

The Los Angeles Times first reported the announcement early Saturday morning.
